The Polish Society of Hemorheology and Microcirculation was founded in Krakow, Poland, in 2012. The main initiator and organizer of the first meetings was Professor Maria Fornal, Ph.,.med.Dr., who had regularly attended international conferences on rheology by then. Despite the dynamically developing hemorheological research in Poland, the subject matter was not propagated on a large scale. No national scientific meetings were dedicated to the mechanics of the flow and the morphotic elements of blood. Thanks to the efforts of Professor Fornal, the first meeting place of the Society was the Clinic of Internal Medicine and Geronthology, Jagiellonian University, located at ul. Sniadeckich 10, Krakow, Poland.
In the first few years of its existence, the meetings of the Society were conducted to outline the future directions of development, to exchange knowledge, and to establish relationships among research facilities working on blood rheology and physicochemical properties of the animate matter. It quickly became apparent that Society would associate scientists representing various fields and disciplines of science.

The mission of the Polish Society of Hemorheology and Microcirculation is the organization of a scientific platform involving hemorheology, rheology of the animate matter, the mechanics of the flow and microflow of the body fluids, biorheological research methods such as spectroscopic, microscopic, or biophysical. The Society's goal is to develop hemorheological and related research in Poland, disseminate the scientific findings nationally and internationally, and organize and support cooperation with other institutions and scientific societies.
